In communities affected by leprosy, where stigma and physical limitations make employment nearly impossible, Embrace a Village’s rice distribution program provides vital support. Every quarter, 1,800 families – about 8,100 individuals – receive 10kg of rice each month, easing the burden of food insecurity. This initiative offers essential nourishment and restores dignity and hope, helping families break the cycle of poverty and find stability.

A Beacon of Hope: Nandakumar’s Journey

Nandakumar, a twelve-year-old in the 7th grade, has faced more hardship than most experience in a lifetime. Growing up in a small village in Tamil Nadu, his family is burdened by poverty and the stigma of leprosy, with his grandfather suffering from the disease. As a result, Nandakumar and his family face discrimination and isolation, yet he holds a deep love for his grandfather.

When Nandakumar’s parents learned about Embrace a Village’s after-school program offering free tuition and nutritious food, they saw a glimmer of hope. Nandakumar began attending and found a sanctuary where he was welcomed with kindness and respect. The program not only helped him improve his grades but also gave him the strength to dream of a brighter future.

Under the guidance of Hepzibah, a compassionate teacher, Nandakumar began to excel in his studies. Despite the ongoing challenges at home, he remains determined to honor his grandfather’s memory by achieving the dreams they once shared. Thanks to Embrace a Village, Nandakumar has found hope, resilience, and the courage to change his destiny.

Chellammal’s Journey: From Despair to Hope

Her life began to change when Embrace a Village started providing support in her village.

One day, volunteers from Embrace a Village arrived with bags of rice, a gesture that brought tears to Chellammal’s eyes. This simple act of kindness alleviated her food insecurity and offered a glimmer of hope. The regular visits from the volunteers not only provided essential supplies but also companionship and respect, which Chellammal had long been missing.

Over time, Embrace a Village became like family to Chellammal. They celebrated festivals together, shared meals, and provided emotional support. The rice sustained her body, while the kindness nourished her soul, transforming her small hut into a place of warmth and love.
