You Helped Kaliyappan Know He’s Not Forgotten
In the remote corners of Tamil Nadu, there are people like Kaliyappan and Rajammal – individuals who have been isolated for years, battling illness and loneliness without anyone to turn to.
At 80 years old, Kaliyappan had spent years struggling with the effects of leprosy. Once a strong provider for his family, he had lost all feeling in his feet and hands, and the disease weakened his body. His loving wife, Rajammal, never left his side, caring for him even as her own strength faded.
But they were completely alone.
Shunned by their village and abandoned by their own children, Kaliyappan and Rajammal lived on the outskirts of society, struggling daily just to survive. Many nights, they went to bed hungry, unsure whether they would have food the next day.
Then, one day, everything changed.
Volunteers from Embrace a Village discovered the couple’s heartbreaking situation. They didn’t hesitate. Week after week, they showed up at Kaliyappan and Rajammal’s home with food, medicine, and clean clothes. They treated Kaliyappan’s swollen, infected feet and offered Rajammal much-needed emotional support. For the first time in years, the couple no longer felt invisible.
Kaliyappan’s wounds began to heal, and Rajammal found renewed strength knowing they were not alone anymore. The visits from the Embrace a Village team became the highlight of their days, offering not just physical relief but also the warmth of human connection they had long been denied.
“We thought we were alone,” Kaliyappan said, his voice filled with gratitude. “But now we know there are people who care about us. We are not forgotten.”
